This is a potential SMiLE album. A SMiLE album that can be assembled from the existing (incomplete) tracks. On side 1, we have the only two recorded survivors of 'The Barnyard Suite' in the form of 'Baryard' and the "demo" version of 'I'm In Great Shape'. There were meant to be four short pieces recorded for this suite as there would have been in the case of 'The Elements Suite'. As it is, all there exists of this suite is 'Fire' and 'I Love To Say Da Da' which might be/might not be 'Water'. The again there are some who say this is the 'Air' track. 'Earth Chant' is a rumoured 'Elements' track that may or may not even exist. Although 'Country Air' was recorded well after 'SMiLE' was abandoned, it could well have evolved from the "piano piece" that was intended to be 'Air'. At least it was recorded in the same year that work stopped on SMiLE. And we do still have 'I Wanna Be Around/Friday Night'; the rebuilding after the 'Fire'.
These tracks are not even in their intended order. This listing has been put together by SMiLE fanatics (such as yours truly), as a basic blueprint to creating your own copy of the album. Therefore, tracks that probably wouldn't have ended up on the album ('He Give Speeches'; Bicycle Rider') have been placed here to make up for the glaring absences of the 'Barnyard' and 'Elements' suites. Some of the tracks are readily available, some of them not so. But all equally shine out as testament to a period of brilliant originality and creativity, when surf music was boring the life out of a young Californian composer. And he was only just beginning to do so much more...
